This is Rubbergator's blog of the Wolfman's Wandering Rally held in Grand Lake, Colorado, July 26-29, 2007. These blogs are read from bottom to top, so go all the way to the bottom and start there. Enjoy!

One more Continental Divide before leaving the Colorado Rockies.

Here's a close-up of some of the affected pine trees.

On my way to the Denver Airport I took some pictures of the surrounding countryside. These are pine trees infected with the Pine Beetles. In some areas more than half the trees have been affected.
On Sunday morning I had breakfast at the Fat Cat (again) with "Malachi", "Corvette", "Dr. Rok" and "Nurse Goodbody". After breakfast, Mal got a new cowboy hat at a shop across the street. Then it was goodbyes all around.

People have no shortage of conversation at VROC rallies!

A few people hung around and socialized after dinner on Saturday. A number of people had left for home earlier on Saturday.

Looks like Charlie was holding a deck of cards, but it was really his money for dinner.

Toby and "Slammer"

Another one of those group shots where I am not going to identify everyone. If you were there, you know who they are!

Looks like some of us were really hungry!

For some reason, the restaurants in Grand Lake have an aversion to giving separate checks to large parties. Sometimes we needed a calculator to figure it all out.

More bears.

"Etcher" and "Bucky". Bucky did a fabulous job organizing the rally.

Still more bears. Looks like Stewey in the middle of the den here.

Saturday dinner was at the Bear's Den. Here's a couple bears.

The whole group.

Here I am standing on the Continental Divide. By the way, this seems a good time to mention that the story of my nickname has finally been revealed and you can read about it on my VROC member's profile...

"Dr Rok" and "Nurse Goodbody". I hope we'll see them at more rallies.
"Etcher" has quite a rainsuit!

Al and Jim at the Continental Divide.

Al getting his gear on.

Looks like rain may be coming. The group starts the Raingear Games.

Stewey...the leader of the pack.

"Slammer"

"Cheap B"

Jim Ayers from West Virginia.

Borys "Deerslayer" Pycko from Ontario, Canada.

"Hardwood"

Al from Alberta.

"Dr. Rok" and "Nurse Goodbody" from Nebraska. His bike didnt run well at the high altitudes. I would like to mention that Dr. Rok was named Secondary Principal of the Year for the State of Nebraska. The awards ceremony is coming up soon. Congrats!

CL "Etcher" from Indiana riding "Fez's" Nomad. Fez let CL do that because CL is married to Fez's daughter...

Waiting to ride. No rainsuits yet.

Gasing up in Granby.

Stewey giving a safety briefing.

I rode with Jim again on Saturday. The weather was nicer than Friday. Stewey was in the lead of 10 bikes.

Getting ready for the Tupperware Party.

"Big Dawg", Greg, Al and "Fez" outside after breakfast. Greg is on is feet today, but his leg is still swollen. He will have Al to keep him company on the trip home.

Pie for breakfast....yummmm!

Al from Alberta helping himself to some of the feast.

A booth full of serious eaters!

Breakfast discussions. Thats "Six Pack Jack" at the end before he left for Alaska.

Saturday morning breakfast at the Fat Cat. Best breakfast in town. So many choices.

Charlie at the cabin, getting ready to ride to town for breakfast. Charlie came all the way from Mississippi on his trusty Nomad.

Saturday morning at the Moose Haven Cabin. Here is Jim "Big Dawg" wiping the rain off his bike. He has a really great looking Vulcan 2000. This 3-bedroom, 2 bath cabin was only a handful of miles from town. "Fez" had made arrangments and there were 5 of us staying there. We could see moose from the deck of the cabin!

After the lightening stopped we set out again. Everyone was pretty tired of the hours of rain and hail. Going around a curve to get on the highway, Greg hit the wet paint and went down, catching his leg under his bike. The bike was fine. Greg tried valiantly to ride again, but the pain was too great and we had to call for assistance. Here is Greg icing and elevating his leg while we wait for our rescuers. The rest of the group rode back to Grand Lake, and I waited with Greg. In about an hour Skid, Slammer and Sherm arrived in my rental car and Skid rode the bike back to the motel and the rest of us went by car. It was still raining, it was dark by then, and the pass we had to go over was high and twisty. Skid did a great job. It was the VROC family in action. After resting his leg until Sunday, Greg and Al took off for the rest of their trip. I look forward to hearing how Greg is doing.

Trying to dry out...

After a very nice lunch in Estes Park we set out again. The weather turned bad and we rode in rain and hail for several hours. At a gas stop we met up with Phin and Toby, and they joined our group. More rain, more hail. Hour after hour. When the lightening started striking around us we took shelter in a casino's underground parking garage with a number of other bikers, like this guy in orange.

Thompson Canyon.

Al from Alberta, Dan from Denver, Greg from Alberta, Jim "Big Dawg" from Indiana, and me in the front. Jim was kind enough to take me on his bike with him both Friday and Saturday.
