Saturday morning at the Moose Haven Cabin. Here is Jim "Big Dawg" wiping the rain off his bike. He has a really great looking Vulcan 2000. This 3-bedroom, 2 bath cabin was only a handful of miles from town. "Fez" had made arrangments and there were 5 of us staying there. We could see moose from the deck of the cabin!
After the lightening stopped we set out again. Everyone was pretty tired of the hours of rain and hail. Going around a curve to get on the highway, Greg hit the wet paint and went down, catching his leg under his bike. The bike was fine. Greg tried valiantly to ride again, but the pain was too great and we had to call for assistance. Here is Greg icing and elevating his leg while we wait for our rescuers. The rest of the group rode back to Grand Lake, and I waited with Greg. In about an hour Skid, Slammer and Sherm arrived in my rental car and Skid rode the bike back to the motel and the rest of us went by car. It was still raining, it was dark by then, and the pass we had to go over was high and twisty. Skid did a great job. It was the VROC family in action. After resting his leg until Sunday, Greg and Al took off for the rest of their trip. I look forward to hearing how Greg is doing.
After a very nice lunch in Estes Park we set out again. The weather turned bad and we rode in rain and hail for several hours. At a gas stop we met up with Phin and Toby, and they joined our group. More rain, more hail. Hour after hour. When the lightening started striking around us we took shelter in a casino's underground parking garage with a number of other bikers, like this guy in orange.
